At last, we are on our way to the long-awaited 16-days Taiwan tour! This is the first time we went for such a long backpacking holiday. We did a lot of planning before hand (the planning was not as extensive as the Sydney trip though ^_^) to ensure that we have a memorable trip and sure enough, we did.
The purpose of this blog is to document the details of the trip and hope will be an useful reference to people who want to visit the beautiful Taiwan.
Our first stop is Taipei.
After a 4-hour flight, the 3 of us finally arrived at Taiwan's Taoyuan Airport!
By the time, we went through the custom, it was already dark outside. We went straight to the tourist reception for the application of the "youth travel card" (We will be entitled to quite a lot of discounts with this card!). Due to our half month stay in Taiwan and the need for local contacts, we also bought a "Taiwan Mobile" prepaid card.
Youth Travel card You can apply for this at CKS aiport. It is for those below 30 yrs old only.
EasyCard - Transitlink equivalent
(Easily obtainable from any train stations and 7-11)
Freego Bus transport (NTD 135/pax)
Tickets are obtainable at the airport counter
It was already 7pm by the time we reached Neijiang Hotel in Ximending (XMD). We were famished. After checking in the hotel, we head straight to the infamous “Ah Zong Mee Sua” for dinner. There was already a long queue when we reached there. Taiwanese, tourists and even foreigners came for the well-known mee sua. “Ah Zong Mee Sua” only has a shop-front, there is no tables and chairs. Hence, all of us have to finish our dinner, standing in front of the shop.
“Ah Zong Mee Sua” tasted abit like the one from “Shih-lin snacks” in Singapore. The unique thing about “Ah Zong Mee Sua” is the crunchy pig intestines instead of the usual oysters. The texture of the mee sua, together with the specialty chilli sauce and vinegar made the mee sua extremely yummy.

Next, we also ate fried salted chicken and fried crisp squid. The salt and pepper is a perfect match. The snacks from pasar malam in Singapore can’t compare. We ate and shopped, shopped and ate again for the whole night. Both the settings as well as item pricing in XMD are pretty similar to “LEVEL ONE" in Singapore.
Vivi had been lamenting about custom-made name labels before coming to Taiwan. She was overjoyed when we came across on such shop in XMD. The name labels are indeed cute. Lynn made some for her sisters as well.
We also saw some extremely exquisite umbrellas too. Vivi and me bought one each, but Lynn did not manage to find one for her liking.
